From the press release of this song:
“Sid Simons is a New York City-Based songwriter and performer whose music is as dynamic and worldly as his background. Born in Portland, OR, raised in Sydney, Australia, and schooled in the underground rock scenes of China and NYC, Simons crafts a sound that seamlessly blends the grit of the early 2000s indie rock revival with the soulful, melodic warmth of 1970s Americana.
Simons first captured widespread attention with his viral hit “Wendy,” paving the way for his acclaimed album, Beneath the Brightest Smiles. Produced by Gordon Raphael (The Strokes, Regina Spektor), the record established Simons as a “fresh yet familiar” voice in the indie scene. His unique artistry has since caught the attention of major tastemakers, earning features in Paper Magazine, NME, and other leading publications, watching his rise. His most recent release, the 2025 EP The Last American Valentine, further showcases his evolution, marrying orchestral arrangements with his signature lyrical wit.
On stage, Simons is a magnetic force. Known for delivering high-octane, polished performances that bridge the gap between intimate storytelling and raucous celebration. Having already sold out iconic venues like the Bowery Ballroom and toured extensively across North America and Europe, Sid Simons is a star on the rise, bringing an infectious, crowd-commanding energy to every stage he plays.”

Looking deeper into this specific song, Simons elaborates, “I wrote this song a few years ago, and listening back to it now, I can hear every ounce of anger in my voice. At the time, I was convinced I’d carry those feelings forever. Certain hurts feel permanent when you’re standing in the middle of them. A few months ago, I ran into the person the song was about for the first time in years. We talked, I invited her out with some friends, and we ended up spending the night dancing, laughing, and sharing stories. It was one of those moments that quietly rearranges your perspective. The song reminds me that no feeling is as permanent as it seems. Life moves, people change, and time softens things you once thought would stay sharp forever. Everyone is living this life for the first time, stumbling through it the best they can. I think that’s reason enough to offer each other a little forgiveness whenever possible.”
This song is, according to its press release, “a powerful anthem that embodies the pain of being betrayed by someone you loved. Utilizing a soaring lead guitar and a full-bodied rhythm guitar, Simons vividly paints a picture of the pain only the ones closest to us are capable of inflicting.” Having listened to it myself a few times, I can confirm that the song truly is anthemic and catchy. The guitars shimmer and shine. As do Simons’ vocals and lyrics. Empathy for the protagonist in this song, for sure. I’m looking forward to hearing more songs off the album and the entire album release.
