Alba Fury releases another single, “This is Why” with Exclusive Visualizer Video

Hello,

Back in late November, we were excited to share with you the debut single, “Out of Time,” from the Scottish-based band Alba Fury. The band members include Michael Ward (lead vocals), Sam Greig (guitar), Jamie Thomson (bass & backing vocals), and Fraser Plumb (drums). They’re big fans of Fontaines DC, Sprints, Young Fathers, and Joy Division, and after listening to a couple of their songs, I see why. We loved “Out of Time” due to its anthemic sound and how catchy it was to how the momentum built through the song’s layered instrumentation. We also knew there would be more music from the band to share with you in the future.

And today is that day. Again, we are honored to share Alba Fury’s second single, “This is Why.”

From the single’s press release, the band’s songwriter and bass player, Jamie Thomson, said,”‘This is Why’ is a song about acknowledging when you need help with emotional issues, whatever they may be. It’s about the anxiety that stems from our fear of being judged, rejected, or hurt as a result of revealing personal weaknesses or insecurities. Ultimately, though, it’s a hopeful song about how facing vulnerability can lead to self-awareness and emotional resilience.”

Like their debut single, they’ve got more awesome artwork for the new single and its own visualizer for “This is Why”:

From the single’s press release, the following credits for the song/video include: “In keeping with the band’s DIY ethos, the single was produced largely by the band themselves. It was recorded in part, in Aberdeen, with billboard-charting producer Ryan (RYZY) MacKay tracking the drums and bass guitar. The guitar and vocals were recorded by the band in Edinburgh, with mixing and post-production handled by the band’s bass player (and songwriter-producer), Jamie Thomson. The track was mastered by Philip Marsden in Oxford.”

My thoughts on the song and visualizer?  Wow. It is not for the faint of heart in the best ways. There’s so much emotion in this. The song captivates your attention and your senses while it plays. Your ears, your brain, and your eyes are focused on it the entire time. When paired with the visualizer, you cannot look away from it or think about something else. Kudos to the band for such an engrossing and encompassing performance. There’s incredible energy and intensity throughout. The visualizer and its dark color scheme, contrasting bold white fonts, and darker imagery like frequent rain, intermittent flashes of light, and scratch marks serve as a perfect complement to the song. Kudos to all involved for an outstanding visualizer. The song is equally intense with its drum beats that ground the melody and drive it forward, the impressive guitar work, and vocal deliveries. Not to mention the unapologetic, cathartic lyrics about processing feelings and emotions one encounters. The song is another gorgeous display of artistry. That again, makes me want to hear more from them. Album in 2025?
