Singles Spotlight:
Tim O’Connell –
“I’ve Got a Song In My Heart”

Hello reader,

How are you today?

Late last year, we at SWT were excited to share “Good Enough (A Father’s Song)” from Tim O’Connell’s GEMS EP.  An EP that stayed on JazzWeek’s Top Albums chart for six months. We loved the song, the EP, and Tim’s story. Check out everything that we covered in the link above.

And now, nearly six months later, we are happy to share another song from the Nashville-based, ASCAPLUS award-winning songwriter. This song will be featured on his upcoming EP release, Make America Fun Again! I sighed and exhaled when I read the title, then said, “Yes, please” aloud. Long overdue. At least a decade. Back to the music: the song we’re about to spotlight today features a fantastic duet whose vocals pair perfectly with O’Connell’s. They sound great individually, but amazing together. Kudos to both vocalists. It’s a well-written song about love, romance, and those cherished moments. I’ve come to learn that Tim is a songwriter who excels at capturing life experiences and feelings that everyday listeners can relate to in his songs. Some might say everyman/woman, or salt of the earth, or common folk. O’Connell wears his heart on his sleeve and shows it off within his lyrics. And this song is another example of that. I enjoyed the pacing and melody as well; it’s got a little funk and rhythm to it.

From the EP’s press release, O’Connell talks about “I’ve Got a Song in My Heart,” saying, “I wrote this song last year. And after I made a demo of it, I thought I might have a summertime hit single on my hands. Because it repeats, I thought it would be good to make a duet out of it, with the male and female vocalists trading verses. I contacted a singer named Kiki Halliday because I liked her voice and hired her to sing the duet with me. I’m very happy with the results. I worked with multi-instrumentalist Buck Brown to record the tracks. This is the fifth record I’ve made with Buck, and he continues to amaze me.” Sound good to you, too?  We’re excited to share the song with you. Are you ready? Follow the EP’s release by checking out O’Connell’s socials at the end of this post, below the EP cover art.
