I like talking about deserving bands outside the US, and today we’re headed north of the border to visit our Canadian friends. Yes, they’re friends to us here at SWT, despite what some in power here in the US think. Screw those bastards who are full of toxic masculinity, narrow-minded ideas, ignorance, and hate. Let’s head to Northern Ontario, and you’ll find a newer outlaw punk band, Dead II Society, and those gents are making some fantastic music. You had me at outlaw punk.
Their YouTube bio describes the band as follows: “DEAD II SOCIETY is an Outlaw Punk Rock band comprised of Northern Ontario music scene veterans BUZZ (Vocals/Guitar), YAK (Guitar), TORG (Bass), and CHUK (Drums). Specializing in loud, high-energy, foot-stomping songs ranging from Skate Punk to Arena Rock to Alt-Country, their songs tackle the subjects of dark pasts, mental health, addiction, and the ups-and-downs of personal relationships.” That catch your attention? As a human reading SWT content, hopefully it does, as we often cover songs with those themes.
A little more from the band via the press release: “With an outlaw punk-meets-skate punk sound, ‘Dead and Buried’ is a relentless freight train of emotion, pain and love. It’s the first time Buzz has written a song inspired by the story of someone so close to him, making its meaning even more powerful.
‘Dead and Buried’ was written about a close friend’s experience losing her father at too young an age, and dealing with an evil person who tried to strip her and her brothers of their inheritance,’ the band says. ‘When she was going through this loss, she couldn’t find the words to express her anger and grief. So Buzz wrote this song in honour of her and her father.'”
