Low Cut Connie –
Art Dealers (2023)
Album Review

5 out of 5 Scum Drops. Low Cut Connie's Art Dealers is a gem. Not the best album ever, but it's a damn good time. Showcases the band in outstanding form and is of beautiful sonic quality. Easily an album to put on repeat. Can't recommend listening to the album enough. Add it to your collection!

Hello Readers,

Thanks for stopping by.  Alex here with our site’s first studio album review.

Full disclosure:  We were not compensated for our thoughts, all thoughts are entirely my own.  I am not a trained reviewer, just a music fan with a decent writing voice.

Josh asked me if I wanted to see Low Cut Connie at one of their tour dates as they were stopping at a venue that was easy for both of us to get to. Outside of “Beverly,” which received a lot of local airplay rotation during its release in 2018 and since, I wasn’t familiar with the band. That’s on me because after looking more into the band and listening to them, they enthusiastically rock.

Putting out albums since 2011, and performing more recently on musically well represented shows like Late Night with Seth Myers, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Minneapolis/St Paul’s own wonderful station The Current, NYC’s own fabulous station WFUV, NPR’s lovely World Cafe, Low Cut Connie was existing within my orbit. Can’t recommend all of those mentioned for continuously great music content. From 2011-2020, Low Cut Connie has released seven studio albums to a lot of excellent reviews across the music critic and journalist sphere. I’d recommend that you end up listening to them all. Here’s a clip from their performance for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to set the tone before we get into the new album.

Their newest release, released via Contender Records and titled, Art Dealers was put out for your listening pleasure on September 8th. An album that is usually rollicking and has tight musicianship throughout. The piano has perfect tone and is beautiful throughout. There are fantastic vocals from bandleader and powerfully voiced, Adam Weiner, and great choruses with backing vocals throughout the album as well. I can’t praise his voice or creativity enough and Art Dealers showcases Adam beautifully. Throughout Art Dealers the drums and guitars complement the other instruments and vocals. Art Dealers is perfect to play on your stereo to start a home dance party, and a great inclusion as part of a road trip playlist. This album might be accessible for everyone that likes good music regardless of genre(s). I think each of the songs on this album could become your favorite song on this album. The album starts with “TELL ME SOMETHING I DON’T KNOW” setting the tone, with great vocals, choruses, and instrumentation. The album ends with a contemplative, slower beat, beautiful acoustic guitar driven song “THE PARTY’S OVER” to complement the background singers and Weiner’s own voice. Every song in between is well, a cohesive, beautiful listening experience that flows exceptionally well from song to song.

Here’s the lovely “ARE YOU GONNA RUN?” directed by talented filmmaker/videographer/photographer Bob Sweeney http://sweeneybob.net/ gives you a taste of what’s on Art Dealers:
