Jaco Jaco –
“Over When It’s Over”

Today, I’m back after yesterday’s premiere, ready to discuss another artist and musician that continues to put out some great music: Jaco Jaco. For years, the Oklahoma-based band Sports featured brothers Christian and Jacob Theriot, along with childhood friend, long-time collaborator, and third band member Cale Chronister. The trio capitalized on their popular, easy-to-search-and-remember name and paired it with a plethora of 80s lo-fi pop beats, which became multiple successful mid-2010s to early 2020s albums, resulting in extensive touring that included international stops.

For the past few years, Jacob Theriot, the Philadelphia-based musician, visual artist, and former member of the trio Sports, has been working on his own project, Jaco Jaco. This project features a lot of psych, funk, and 70s dreamy rock, some 80s vibes, among other sounds. His songs with this project have been playful at times, yet always well-crafted and arranged. Jaco Jaco’s debut studio album Splat (2024) was followed by Gremlin (2025), an album that I previewed for SWT. He’s grown a following along the way and has continued at an album-per-year pace. His newest album, On the Levee, is out Friday, July 10th, for y’all to hear.

Having been fortunate enough to listen to the album, I knew right away that I had to do a Spotlight on at least one of the songs. I chose “Over When It’s Over” as the song that I’m sharing with you today. Within the press release for the song, Theriot said, “This song is about watching the world fly on by, but finding yourself strangely at peace with it.”

I love the intro to this song as the vocals and melody build at a nice pace. Jaco Jaco’s vocal tone is instantly recognizable, memorable and calming. Paired with some warm, what I would describe as 80s musical vibes, listening to the song has a soothing effect. I think you’ll appreciate not only this song but also any other Jaco Jaco songs. You’ll end up adding them to your playlists. Maybe one for around the house and another for road adventures. Sounds like a good idea to me. And thus “Over When It’s Over” serves as a great introduction to Jaco Jaco and is well deserving of the spotlight we’re shedding upon it today.
