Singles Spotlight:
Hello June – “Dance
(M. Walker Remix)”

Hello Reader,

How are you today?  Today, we’re here to shed more spotlight on an artist that we’ve covered in the past. Hello June is an excellent indie/alt-rock from WV, led by singer-songwriter Sarah Rudy. The band is known for its intimate and dynamic performances. Seeing them live, you’ll notice that their performances range from quiet, song-focused, intimate experiences to emotionally driven rock anthems. Hello June has been steadily making waves with their last three album releases, Artifacts (2023), the self-titled Hello June (2018), and their debut Spruce (2017), along the way receiving praise and acclaim from NPR, No Depression, Paste Magazine, and more.

When asked about the song we’re about to spotlight for you, Sarah Rudy told of its journey and spirit, saying, “For me, ‘Dance’ is a song about personal freedom. It’s about finding yourself and finding it important to find yourself by any means. Don’t dance around things. Say what you mean; mean what you say. Let your actions align with what you believe. Keep believing in yourself and your loved ones. Dance was originally released in 2017, and NPR Music included it into its ‘Heavy Rotation’ series.”

At SWT, we’re huge believers in NPR’s Music division, not only from that aforementioned series but also to its other content like Tiny Desk Concerts, World Cafe, and so much more.

Press play and listen to Hello June’s – “Dance (M. Walker Remix)”:

I love the vibe and production decisions they made on this remix of “Dance.” While the original version is a great song that features slower pacing and a more pop sound, complete with thumping drums, the remix, in contrast, has an even more danceable mood and club sound than the original version. The remix’s more carefree-sounding beat perfectly bounces off Rudy’s resolute vocal tones, creating, on some levels, a more impactful listen due to its defiant nature. Rudy and the band were adamant in the original but they’re obstinate in the remix version.

The “Dance (M.Walker Remix)” single is streaming everywhere, but you can buy the song from the band’s website.
