Singles Spotlight:
Verses GT –
“Your Light ft. George Riley”

Hello reader,

How are you today?

Today, we’re excited to discuss another duo who has just started making some great music together: Verses GT.  Both Nosaj Thing (from Montreal) and Jacques Greene (from LA) are well known producers in the underground music scene lying heavily but not entirely within the electronic music subgenre. Recently Thing and Greene have combined forces? Sign us up!

From their self-titled debut album press release, “Verses GT is the new collaborative project from Nosaj Thing and Jacques Greene, encompassing an album, a worldwide live tour, and immersive moving image. Bold and elegant, the duo’s self-titled debut album is a heavyweight and tangible record reflecting both lived-in and lived-through modern times.”

The press release further elaborates, “The majority of Verses GT was created in person in London, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Paris, and in Montreal at Jacques Greene’s studio, rather than virtually. ‘It’s based on human relationships,’ Greene explains. In addition to KUČKA, the album includes features from George Riley and TYSON and a collaborative art-working team of photographer-director Xavier Tera, creative director-writer Terence Teh, and artist-designer Erin D. Garcia. Together, they have created a project that is a globally-spanning, call-and-response mantra. Verses GT is a singular yet wide-reaching dialogue between the duo, each prospective listener, and a shared, collective experience of making something real, together.” Originally reading that had me intrigued. I loved the idea of this art forward, collaborative project. Then I listened to a few songs and I was adamant that I had to share at least one of them and this project with the readers of SWT. Their self-titled debut album, Verses GT was released via LUCKYME® label on Friday, September 12th.

In my opinion, one of the best songs on Verses GT is “Your Light feat. George Riley” which is the reason SWT is going to shed some spotlight upon this song today. We’re so stoked to share it with you. It’s a gorgeous vibe from start to finish. The production is incredible from its beats and loops and other general groove that hooks you from the opening moments of the song. The melody evolves throughout the song including but not limited to electronic, house and techno elements that get you moving along to the beat as the melody builds and fades. Vocals are an unexpected surprise coming into the song, and they stand out and stick with you. Kudos to the song composition on this one. To me, this is a great introduction to the project and album that should leave listeners wanting more. Check out the rest of the after if you like the following song!
