Singles Spotlight:
Daisychain –
“Rivers”

Hello reader,

How are you today? Ready for some more fantastic music?

Today, we’re excited to introduce you to another great emerging band – Chicago based psychedelic rock trio Daisychain.

The femme-led band formed in 2017 and currently features Nickole Regala (bass, vocals), Frankie Sripada (lead guitar), and Sophia Williams (rhythm guitar, vocals). The band has gained many new fans in recent years thanks to an exhilarating dynamic blend of psychedelic rock, blues, and soulful vocals. Their resulting sound has echoes of garage rock and classic 1970s rock, which you’ll undoubtedly appreciate.

The band has maintained a busy tour schedule in recent years, taking them across the country. Their name recognition is only set to grow, with the June 27 release of the band’s debut album All In A Name, which was produced by veteran producer, mixer, and engineer Sylvia Massy (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Prince, Tool, System of A Down). The band recorded the album at Massy’s Ashland, Oregon-based studio.

In SWT’s opinion, one of the album’s standout tracks is “Rivers,” which we’re stoked to put the spotlight on for you today. It’s an intoxicatingly catchy song that will certainly leave you feeling like you’re floating down a literal river, with its blues-rock ebbs and flows and heavy dose of droning guitars shifting like currents. Williams’ commanding presence on vocals ties everything together.

On the track’s subject matter, Williams says, “‘Rivers’ embodies the unspoken words and dynamics between two people. It describes the static energy that you feel when you say one thing, but the words you really want to say hang in the air around you.”

The band cites phenomenal rock bands like The Black Angels and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club as inspiration for the heavier tune. Sripada recalls, “Recording this one was really cool because the producer, Sylvia, wanted a big wall of sound so they beefed up the bass with heavy overdrive and layered the guitars, making for a really engaging listening experience.”

The song was one of the winning results of their time working with Massy, who had them write over 100 songs during the writing and recording process, from which they learned many valuable lessons.

According to the press release, “Massy encouraged Daisychain’s strengths such as their well-defined blues-rock sound, which she amplified, rather than altered, through wood winds, chimes, pump organs, and synthesizing vocal and guitar harmonies as a single entity.”

“While Daisychain will always be most at home in a punk rock dive, Massy’s lush layering of Sophia and Nickole’s blended vocals and proficiency on keys, clarinet, and flute would make them just as fitting for an orchestral hall. The result is a sound that celebrates female voices and breaking glass ceilings.”

Adds Regala, “‘All in a Name’ will always represent to me the discipline, vulnerability, and humility it takes to make a great album. Whether it was the intensity of the writing process, the three-week recording sabbatical, or life just life-ing us, this album feels like us which is why I can’t stop listening to it.”

It’s a sentiment that makes us count down the minutes to hear the rest of the album and see where the band goes from here.
