Editor’s Note: Today, we’re going to revisit Lavendine, the Oklahoma duo of twin sisters Jacy and Jana Ayers. Earlier this year, we spotlighted their song “Waterless Cloud”. The duo is back this week with a new single, “Who Cares If I’m Alone”, which SWT is excited to premiere for your listening pleasure. The song will appear on their upcoming EP, Deep Blue, which is set for release this fall.
The press release for the single describes the song as a “raw, empowering anthem about finding strength in solitude and owning your journey — no matter what life throws at you.” It was produced and mixed by Grammy-nominated Mark Needham (The Killers, Imagine Dragons, Stevie Nicks) and “blends soaring melodies, driving guitars, and honest lyrics into a message that will resonate with anyone learning to stand strong on their own.”

According to the press release, “Lavendine — real-life sisters — have an incredible story of perseverance. From singing together in Oklahoma churches as kids to overcoming major health challenges as adults, they’ve turned every obstacle into art and already earned multiple Top 25 Adult Contemporary hits along the way.”
Below, the sisters penned an exclusive essay for us about the inspiration for “Who Cares If I’m Alone” and how singing together has given them strength and confidence. We’ve enjoyed their music and their essay and hope that you will as well.
We were just two girls in Oklahoma with a dream and an old stereo. Music wasn’t just a soundtrack to our childhood—it was our childhood. We were constantly harmonizing, writing little songs, and dreaming about performing them on big stages. People still tell us, “What we remember most is how you two always sang together.” That’s never changed.
By the time we were 18, it was clear—Music City was calling. Nashville became our classroom, our battleground, and our sanctuary. It was there we realized we weren’t just singers—we were songwriters, storytellers. And sometimes, the best songs are born from the hardest places.

Over the years, our sound evolved as much as our lives did. We went from ballads to bold, layered pop-rock—each song reflecting where we were emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. The more honest we became in our writing, the more people connected with it. Maybe that’s because honesty doesn’t need a spotlight—it finds its own way to shine.
That’s what happened with our song “Diamonds in the Sky.” It’s about breaking free from the weight of the past, even when it hurts. The track glimmers with hope, but it’s rooted in something real—learning to let go of what no longer serves you, and trusting that there’s something better ahead. It has a kind of melancholy shimmer. Not sad, not bitter—just… freeing.
Then came “Who Cares If I’m Alone.” This one was different. It came out of a period of deep disappointment and isolation—when everything felt uncertain, and our hearts were bruised. But as we wrote, something shifted. What started as a sorrowful reflection turned into a power move. A declaration. That even if no one else stands with you, you can still move forward. You can be okay. The line “Who cares if I’m alone?” wasn’t defeat—it was clarity. Peace. Strength. That song had been quietly waiting in our vault for years until Mark Needham—one of our heroes—got his hands on it and gave it the gritty, cinematic energy it always needed.
It’s crazy how the darkest moments often birth the brightest clarity. Those songs—those moments—taught us that sometimes you don’t need a map. You just need to start walking. And if it’s just the two of us at the finish line? That’s okay. We’ll still be singing.
Music has always been our compass. It’s led us through joy, heartbreak, healing, and rebirth. And with every song we write, we’re still chasing the same thing we were when we were kids: truth, harmony, and connection.
And if you’re ever looking for us, chances are—we’re writing a new song somewhere in Nashville, Oklahoma, or L.A. Always searching. Always singing.
