Introducing Co-Founder Joshua M. Miller

Hello,

My name is Joshua M. Miller and I’m a writer and web designer based in the Midwest. Since 2009, I’ve freelanced for a variety of newspapers, magazines, and websites. I’ve contributed to a variety of publications including: The Boston Globe, Chicago Sun-Times, Guitar World, MTV News, Grammy.com, Chicago Magazine, Milwaukee Magazine, MKE Lifestyle, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, A.V. Club, SPIN, Alternative Press, Under the Radar, Paste, PopMatters, American Songwriter, and Relix. You can find my writing at www.joshuamichaelmiller.com.

I have a keen fascination with discovering gems in music and entertainment. My interest in music discovery really took off in 2000 after a family trip to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  My late father played a major role in growing my interest in music and scouring the cd racks and online for some gems. His interest in Sci-Fi, comedy, action, etc. in movies and TV rubbed off on me as well. My parents also got me into travel and nature.

As a freelance writer, I’ve gotten lots of press releases over the years. Getting these and writing about artists in a variety of genres has helped make my tastes more eclectic.

While I’ve done a fair share of writing over the years, I’ve always felt like I could be doing more to highlight bands and entertainers. I get a lot of press releases each day but am only able to interview and cover a small fraction of the artists. So, when my longtime friend (and frequent fellow concertgoer) Alex Theel suggested starting a new website, I jumped at the opportunity. I hope to cover more of the music that comes along to Alex and me and connects with us, and expand into different areas. I enjoy telling others’ stories, no matter what their profession.

The website – Scummy Water Tower – will feature interviews, video sessions, premieres and more from creatives around the U.S. and abroad. My hope is that the video sessions will highlight a variety of artists, filmmakers, venues, and areas around the globe, etc.

Starting a new site is bold decision so any help to help solidify Scummy Water Tower’s foundation and help us cover artists is appreciated. You can contribute at our GoFundMe and Patreon pages.

Thanks for the support!

Josh
