Hello reader,
How are you?
Today, we’re excited to discuss another artist who is making some fantastic music: Laveda. The New York based band is pronounced la-vey-da and its members are Ali Genevich (guitar, bass, synth, vocals); Jacob Brooks (guitar, bass, synth, vocals); Dan Carr (bass/guitar) and Joe Taurone (drums). The band has been making a name for themselves throughout the NY state the past handful of years with two album releases in What Happens After (2020), and A Place You Grew Up In (2023) and playing plenty of shows in the NYC area.

A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to hear three singles from the band’s newest release Love, Darla and immediately I was hooked. I really was impressed by the guitar work, vocals and melodies. They’re a tight knit band with an awesome sound. For some listeners, hearing Laveda will take you back to decades and artists past in the best ways. I knew I had to share at least one of the singles off the album with you. More recently, I got to listen to the entire album and I can confirm it’s well worth the listen; full of solid songs. Don’t sleep on this album.
The band’s third album, Love, Darla was just released Friday, September 12th via the fantastic Bar/None Records. Check it out for yourself after listening to the song spotlighted today.
In my opinion, one of the best songs on Love, Darla is “Strawberry,” so that’s the single that we’re going to spotlight today. We’re so stoked to share it with you. It’s a powerful song that charges out of the gate with a bell tone followed by a wonderfully hard striking drumbeat and frenetic guitar. One that will have you headbanging, and grooving in the dances that your body and mind see fit to perform to, in no time. The songs’ energy is matched perfectly by Ali Genevich’s lead vocals that some listeners will undoubtedly compare to Kim Gordon and/or others in the riot grrrl scene especially in the ’90s. Do as you will while you listen as long as you continue to respect the originality of modern artistry. There’s a lot to like about the entire Love, Darla album in my opinion and I think “Strawberry” serves as a welcomed starting point introduction to becoming fans of Laveda.
