Singles Spotlight: partywatcher – “AMOR DEL BUENO”

Hola! How are you today?

Today, we’re excited to introduce another artist who is making some great music: partywatcher aka Jochy Saldivar, a Chicago-based Latin soul-pop artist who blends music that he listened to in the Dominican Republic growing up, like bachata, with Chicago’s house and soul music. He has been in Chicago since 2016 making a name for himself in the music scene especially within Latin pop.

His Bandcamp bio states, “partywatcher embraces the nighttime island sounds of his youth and backs them with inspired Soul rhythms. Splitting his youth between the Dominican Republic and Texas, partywatcher has spent the past decade blending his love of Bachata, Latin Pop, and Classic R&B into original grooves made for those who walk the seedier side of life but seek the light.”

In May partywatcher released the single, “ESO YA NO VA” and I liked its smooth vocals, Dominican and island rhythms that truly make you dance. Thanks Jochy! But I was luckily enough to hear another single, “AMOR DEL BUENO” a few weeks ago. And I liked the newest single even more after listening to it. So that’s the song we at SWT are going to shed some spotlight onto today.

In fact, I think it’s my favorite song on the upcoming album. It’s got a bit of everything from examining past relationships in its lyrics to both Latin and house beats with some club rhythms as well. It’s smooth as well as it is forlorn and longing. And you’ll sing along especially if you know Spanish. But if you don’t comprende, you’ll still listen to the beats and rhythms on repeat as it’s a gorgeously crafted song. For those in the scene, you’ll recognize what Jochy is doing with this song and “ESO YA NO VA” and how he’s redefining not only the genre of Latin pop but its sub-genres where he tends to work and create.

partywatcher’s Bandcamp notes: “The song explores the bittersweet beauty of timing in relationships and the powerful notion that some connections transcend circumstance. As the track builds, partywatcher surprises listeners with an unexpected transition into pulsing Chicago house beats, creating a dance-worthy celebration of love’s endurance.
This boundary-pushing blend of Caribbean roots and modern club energy establishes partywatcher as an exciting new voice in Latin pop, unafraid to honor tradition while boldly pushing the genre forward.” After listening, I think all of the above is true.

la letra de la canción:

Te encontre en el pasado
Quise verte una vez mas
Aunque tu vida es distinta
Siempre siempre te adorare

Me acostumbre al amor del bueno
Dime porque se tuvo que ir
Me acostumbre al amor del bueno
Y tu
Fuiste todo para mi

Para mi
Yeah
Tu partywatcher

Cada paso es un peso
Cada lagrima un adios
Tu abrazo lo llevare conmigo
Porque siempre siempre te adorare
Y tu recuerdo siempre amare

Me acostumbre al amor del bueno
Dime porque se tuvo que ir
Me acostumbre al amor del bueno
Y tu
Fuiste todo para mi

The lyrics in English:

I found you in the past
I wanted to see you one more time
Even though your life is different
Always, always, I will adore you
I got used to good love
Tell me why it had to go
I got used to good love
And you were everything to me
Every step is a weight
Every tear is a goodbye
I’ll carry your embrace with me
Because always, always, I will adore you
And your memory, I will always love
I got used to good love
Tell me why it had to go
I got used to good love
And you were everything to me
